It's like a dementor or a poltergeist [ muggles have those right? ] but created from fear instead of despair or chaos.
It takes the form of something you're afraid of.
For me it's a full moon. Etc.
They're not violent or anything.
Unless that's what you're afraid of, I suppose.

If we don't find it before the jump, maybe. It shouldn't hurt anyone.
It might even be gone, if it was here for 6,500 hours without anything to eat.
& telling everyone anything frightening they see might not be real could backfire.

I met a guy here a jump or two ago who said his job was tracking down ghosts and demons. As I'm typing this I am realizing how this could turn into a really terrible idea, but maybe setting him on the trail of a boggart could be useful x2?

I should ask before I go looking: if I find it, what do I do? How do you fight boggarts? Just like whatever they turn into?

You can beat one back that way.
You can't kill it.

Amortal probably made that obvious.

They're weakened by laughter.
They're not very good at frightening more than one person at once.
Nonmagical people can't always see them clearly, but this one was on the strong end.
